BRAGA YOUTH CENTRE MARKS INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY WITH AN AFTERNOON DEDICATED TO YOUNG PEOPLE
Braga Youth Centre will celebrate International Youth Day on 12 August with a programme designed to bring young people together through participation, dialogue and shared experiences. Organised in partnership with the Municipality of Braga, the Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth (IPDJ), the Federation of Youth Associations of the District of Braga (FAJUB) and Synergia Portugal, the event begins at 4:30 p.m. and features a combination of discussion, leisure and entertainment, culminating in the observation of the solar eclipse.
Under the theme "Let's Eclipse Hate Speech", the initiative, developed following a challenge launched by FAJUB to Braga Youth Centre, aims to create a welcoming space where young people can meet, exchange ideas and engage in meaningful conversations in a relaxed and informal setting.
Throughout the afternoon, participants will be invited to join a series of youth talks, sharing experiences, ideas and perspectives on issues that matter to younger generations through an open and participatory format. At the same time, Braga Youth Centre will host a variety of games and non-formal educational activities, complemented by a sunset atmosphere featuring a DJ set by Emídio Meireles.
Coinciding with the day of the solar eclipse, the programme will conclude with participants travelling to Sameiro to observe the eclipse, joining the initiative promoted by the Municipality of Braga and the Braga Ciência Viva Science Centre. This symbolic moment will bring another edition of the International Youth Day celebrations at Braga Youth Centre to a close.
Created to celebrate youth and encourage active participation, the initiative reinforces Braga Youth Centre's commitment to promoting youth engagement, active citizenship and opportunities for young people to connect, exchange ideas and build new experiences together.
Participation is free of charge, and full event details are available at centrojuventudebraga.pt.
International Youth Day is celebrated every year on 12 August, following an initiative of the United Nations, to recognise young people as agents of change and to highlight the importance of their active participation in building more inclusive, sustainable and democratic societies.
